q" @%W K underlying country flavour to it. Whilst once again presented
8XD_p);Oy as a happy little song, there is more than a touch of
^c?$$Tq bitterness in his words. Funnily enough, the rather twee "The
2-beq <I Toothbrush Song" would also make a quality country song due to
^ b6yN\,S its dry lyrics even if a cowboy would feel the need to
2 >/}-a accompany such emotions with bourbon rather than sparkling
qL~|bfN mineral water.
zj 2 l&)N \?"p]&2UcB The pace picks up with the title track "Off the Radar" that
G-5ezVli truly highlights Mr Kerr's pop sensibilities and offsets his
q z8Jvgu? laidback vocal delivery with some spirited guitar. Loves lost

70E and won (mostly lost though? and a sense of reflection on his
A$-\Er+f younger years seem a common theme to the songs in this album
k:#u%Z and, indeed, regret is once more evident in "Is It Too Late to
-YY@[ 5x?u Work for NASA" even if it is disguised here with wry humour.
4D sHUc6 If Bluesbunny closes his eyes, on "Mystery Star" Ally Kerr
w]O,xO seems to transform himself into Edinburgh master popsters

'm k_s4J If Bluesbunny had to pick a favourite track, it would probably
F[*/D/y( be "Amorino" evoking, as it does, the melancholic pleasures of

}A&I@2d h_1 5 " rd The thing that impresses most about this album is the songs
h6 Cqc}P themselves. Well crafted and melodic with sharp and observant
W{fNZb' lyrics, they are however presented as a whole lot fluffier
|>KOlwh5n than they actually are. It must be Ally Kerr's choice to do so
*vOk21z77d but it does seem that he is deliberately avoiding giving any
l<:\w.Gl kind of offense. Maybe he never gets angry himself - although

<_=Vyf his words suggest otherwise -but Bluesbunny feels that he is
#Ve@D@d [ doing his own songs a disservice here by sprinkling an inch of
VM<$!Aaz icing sugar on everything. It is not necessary for everything
j[Gg[7q{y in life to have a cherry on top for it to be appetising.
MzE1he1 /6:qmh2 Overall, this is a happy, upbeat album that is just a bit too
P4fnBH4OQ polite and well mannered to try and force itself upon your
%H4>k#b@$ affections. The production and arrangements are smoother than
h_6c9VI your average Starbuck's decaf latte but it is perhaps fair
ydMSL25<+ comment to say that the omnipresent sugar coating will suit
gv,1 CK his fans. However, and maybe this is a reviewer thing, a bit
6pbtE] of fire and even some unpredictability would have been
J~AmRo0!k welcome. Then again, the Bluesbunny was always a quadruple
