d;|Pp;dc polished pop perfection that brings back memories of the
t)XNS!6#]? jaunty hits of the Housemartins and their catalogue of
?G+ v#?A intelligent and catchy songs. "I Think I'm Bleeding" has an
21M@z(q* underlying country flavour to it. Whilst once again presented
U,Nf&g as a happy little song, there is more than a touch of
q( i| bitterness in his words. Funnily enough, the rather twee "The
h djv/ Toothbrush Song" would also make a quality country song due to
, *8}TIS(s its dry lyrics even if a cowboy would feel the need to
3J~Q pw0< accompany such emotions with bourbon rather than sparkling
g:`V:kbY$ mineral water.
rq Dre`m m^@,0\F The pace picks up with the title track "Off the Radar" that
yYwZZa1 truly highlights Mr Kerr's pop sensibilities and offsets his
M%5qx,JQY laidback vocal delivery with some spirited guitar. Loves lost
CWdA8)n. and won (mostly lost though? and a sense of reflection on his
vzM8U>M younger years seem a common theme to the songs in this album
|jH-
bm and, indeed, regret is once more evident in "Is It Too Late to
#mLF6 "A Work for NASA" even if it is disguised here with wry humour.
?j9 J6=2 If Bluesbunny closes his eyes, on "Mystery Star" Ally Kerr
8 9o&KF] seems to transform himself into Edinburgh master popsters
k%Dpy2uH Dropkick and there are certainly worse things to be than that.
Yci>'$tQ If Bluesbunny had to pick a favourite track, it would probably
@i2"+_ }* be "Amorino" evoking, as it does, the melancholic pleasures of

OBY^J1St h|~I'M]* The thing that impresses most about this album is the songs
"y~t Ag themselves. Well crafted and melodic with sharp and observant
>,%or cN lyrics, they are however presented as a whole lot fluffier
, GO H8h than they actually are. It must be Ally Kerr's choice to do so
RfoEHN but it does seem that he is deliberately avoiding giving any
-sjyv/%_ kind of offense. Maybe he never gets angry himself - although
pW&K=,7| his words suggest otherwise -but Bluesbunny feels that he is
f4'WT doing his own songs a disservice here by sprinkling an inch of
Nyx)&T&I icing sugar on everything. It is not necessary for everything
[?>\] in life to have a cherry on top for it to be appetising.

sm Overall, this is a happy, upbeat album that is just a bit too
c_4K polite and well mannered to try and force itself upon your
lrjVD(R=g affections. The production and arrangements are smoother than
.H@ b zm your average Starbuck's decaf latte but it is perhaps fair
p'`?C Jq8 comment to say that the omnipresent sugar coating will suit
NkV 81 ? his fans. However, and maybe this is a reviewer thing, a bit
W{%X1::q$ of fire and even some unpredictability would have been

a&eO welcome. Then again, the Bluesbunny was always a quadruple

&6 espresso kind of guy.
