2G7 Wi!J underlying country flavour to it. Whilst once again presented
&d!GImcxQ as a happy little song, there is more than a touch of
>Tgv11[ bitterness in his words. Funnily enough, the rather twee "The
ll^#JpT[S Toothbrush Song" would also make a quality country song due to
<I? Zk80 its dry lyrics even if a cowboy would feel the need to
-RwE% cr accompany such emotions with bourbon rather than sparkling
fC`&g~yK' mineral water.
c{|p.hd la!~\wpa The pace picks up with the title track "Off the Radar" that
dPlV>IM$z truly highlights Mr Kerr's pop sensibilities and offsets his

j laidback vocal delivery with some spirited guitar. Loves lost
CJY$G }rk and won (mostly lost though? and a sense of reflection on his
FrS]|=LJhX younger years seem a common theme to the songs in this album
Ui ~>SN>s and, indeed, regret is once more evident in "Is It Too Late to
@"A4$`Xi3 Work for NASA" even if it is disguised here with wry humour.
oR'm2d ^ If Bluesbunny closes his eyes, on "Mystery Star" Ally Kerr
b6bHTH0 seems to transform himself into Edinburgh master popsters
(QEG4&9 Dropkick and there are certainly worse things to be than that.
+7Gwg If Bluesbunny had to pick a favourite track, it would probably
@ Y+oiB~Y be "Amorino" evoking, as it does, the melancholic pleasures of
-w2/w@& heartbreak.
01]f2.5 K- v#.e4 The thing that impresses most about this album is the songs
D*jM1w_` themselves. Well crafted and melodic with sharp and observant
B#A6v0Ta lyrics, they are however presented as a whole lot fluffier
-@'FW*b than they actually are. It must be Ally Kerr's choice to do so
Lbgi7| & but it does seem that he is deliberately avoiding giving any

K-LHs kind of offense. Maybe he never gets angry himself - although

] his words suggest otherwise -but Bluesbunny feels that he is
1EK *g;H doing his own songs a disservice here by sprinkling an inch of
dO'(2 J8 icing sugar on everything. It is not necessary for everything
{: /}NpA$ in life to have a cherry on top for it to be appetising.
?uu*L6 ?<!| Overall, this is a happy, upbeat album that is just a bit too
oH@78D 0A polite and well mannered to try and force itself upon your
Nn6%9PX_) affections. The production and arrangements are smoother than
kiEa<-] your average Starbuck's decaf latte but it is perhaps fair
w )f#V s comment to say that the omnipresent sugar coating will suit
2y4bw i his fans. However, and maybe this is a reviewer thing, a bit
*dQSw)R of fire and even some unpredictability would have been
ES[G welcome. Then again, the Bluesbunny was always a quadruple

}`8 espresso kind of guy.
