`oDs]90 polished pop perfection that brings back memories of the
%[l*:05 jaunty hits of the Housemartins and their catalogue of
|^uU &O;. intelligent and catchy songs. "I Think I'm Bleeding" has an
K`BNSdEN > underlying country flavour to it. Whilst once again presented
7 wO0d/l_ as a happy little song, there is more than a touch of
CY"iP,nHl bitterness in his words. Funnily enough, the rather twee "The
dn"&j1@KY Toothbrush Song" would also make a quality country song due to
m KsTA; its dry lyrics even if a cowboy would feel the need to
F5*NK!U accompany such emotions with bourbon rather than sparkling
? iX1;c9 mineral water.
l'pu?TP{a {*X8!P7C The pace picks up with the title track "Off the Radar" that
a\UhOPFF truly highlights Mr Kerr's pop sensibilities and offsets his
-zzM!1@ F laidback vocal delivery with some spirited guitar. Loves lost
13:yaRo and won (mostly lost though? and a sense of reflection on his
\Mi] !b|8 younger years seem a common theme to the songs in this album
,wI$O8"!j and, indeed, regret is once more evident in "Is It Too Late to
u-31$z<<5} Work for NASA" even if it is disguised here with wry humour.

o j8_e xx If Bluesbunny had to pick a favourite track, it would probably
tt|v opz be "Amorino" evoking, as it does, the melancholic pleasures of

VcLB0T7m\ 01 /? The thing that impresses most about this album is the songs
4 yk!T themselves. Well crafted and melodic with sharp and observant
o(2tRDT\_b lyrics, they are however presented as a whole lot fluffier
FXAP]iqo than they actually are. It must be Ally Kerr's choice to do so
FqvMi:F but it does seem that he is deliberately avoiding giving any
qrWeV8ur+ kind of offense. Maybe he never gets angry himself - although
X5(S+;v"^ his words suggest otherwise -but Bluesbunny feels that he is
^/)!)=? doing his own songs a disservice here by sprinkling an inch of
l7.W2mg icing sugar on everything. It is not necessary for everything

in life to have a cherry on top for it to be appetising.
\z/_vzz4 M~6x&|2 Overall, this is a happy, upbeat album that is just a bit too
/c`s$h4- polite and well mannered to try and force itself upon your
@YH<Hc affections. The production and arrangements are smoother than
P3due|4M your average Starbuck's decaf latte but it is perhaps fair
oX2J2O comment to say that the omnipresent sugar coating will suit
FY^#%0~ his fans. However, and maybe this is a reviewer thing, a bit
v Ft]n of fire and even some unpredictability would have been
u SAb welcome. Then again, the Bluesbunny was always a quadruple
FUq>+U!Qu espresso kind of guy.
