I`_2Q:r Everything the brothers Garza play is infected with pure bluesy groove
PUQ",;&y1 and roots rock verve. The ten songs here are Garza-ized takes on
ElO|6kOBYG Christmas standards: "Jingle Bells," "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,"
bEcs(Mc~ "Away in a Manger," "Feliz Navidad," "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town,"
8LV6E5Q "Carol of the Bells," and "Silent Night." The latter two are fine
+4yre^gC instrumentals. "Carol of the Bells,'" especially, is a deeply satisfying
UL[,A+X8D guitar and percussion workout that embraces not only hard rhumba
4 t*%( drumming, but funk, Mexican folk music, and screaming blues-rock.
=$ OGHc Hopefully, their version of "Run Rudolph Run" will make Chuck Berry
nDn J}`k proud, with its rumbling upright piano and bassline, and Henry's guitar
oAO{4xP offering his best modern read of Berry's instrumental innovation on the
Gz & } OO I-IV-V progression. But the real highlights here are the two originals
YR'F]FI that open the set. "I've Longed for Christmas" is a bona fide new
vW?\bH7}I seasonal tune with its warmth, soulful wah-wah guitar, and laid-back
(z sG!v drum kit shuffling around a slippery groove. The brothers sing
4iA F<|6s unfettered joyful harmonies about giving, peace, love, and joy ?and the
hs7!S+[.$$ celebration of Christ's birth. "She'll Be My Everything for Christmas"
ULiRuN0 6 is inspired by Fats Domino's New Orleans brand of rhythm & blues with
U: 8[% a loose strolls up and down the keyboard and his celebration of love
