Sf':N`u Opening the album is "Could Have Been a Contender" - all
O\=Zo9(NHF polished pop perfection that brings back memories of the
m#_M"B.cm jaunty hits of the Housemartins and their catalogue of
Ue`Y>T7+! intelligent and catchy songs. "I Think I'm Bleeding" has an
g%ys| underlying country flavour to it. Whilst once again presented
M= 3 w as a happy little song, there is more than a touch of
6h&t% T bitterness in his words. Funnily enough, the rather twee "The
QAl 4w)F Toothbrush Song" would also make a quality country song due to
bQN3\mvY its dry lyrics even if a cowboy would feel the need to
:1"k`AG accompany such emotions with bourbon rather than sparkling
uB6Mj dp6 mineral water.

) The pace picks up with the title track "Off the Radar" that
g{>0Pa 1?C truly highlights Mr Kerr's pop sensibilities and offsets his
V`c,U 7[/ laidback vocal delivery with some spirited guitar. Loves lost
r1=j $G and won (mostly lost though? and a sense of reflection on his
{od@S l younger years seem a common theme to the songs in this album
<4zSh3 and, indeed, regret is once more evident in "Is It Too Late to
{+5Ud#\y Work for NASA" even if it is disguised here with wry humour.
{ +Wknm% If Bluesbunny closes his eyes, on "Mystery Star" Ally Kerr

+ lQJ c seems to transform himself into Edinburgh master popsters
= CdrhP_ Dropkick and there are certainly worse things to be than that.
3U!=R- If Bluesbunny had to pick a favourite track, it would probably
gg#lI| be "Amorino" evoking, as it does, the melancholic pleasures of
g2M1 zRm; heartbreak.
x] R0zol cc1M9kVi The thing that impresses most about this album is the songs
]HXHz(?;F themselves. Well crafted and melodic with sharp and observant

0o^T 7C lyrics, they are however presented as a whole lot fluffier
cBOt=vg,5 than they actually are. It must be Ally Kerr's choice to do so
1M55!b but it does seem that he is deliberately avoiding giving any
0pH$Mk Q kind of offense. Maybe he never gets angry himself - although
Z> X]'q03 his words suggest otherwise -but Bluesbunny feels that he is
-Edi"B4K doing his own songs a disservice here by sprinkling an inch of
~6QV? j icing sugar on everything. It is not necessary for everything
lh XD9ed in life to have a cherry on top for it to be appetising.
Dk2Z l ?=-/5A4K Overall, this is a happy, upbeat album that is just a bit too
;WrG\R/| polite and well mannered to try and force itself upon your

D_ affections. The production and arrangements are smoother than
jzWgyI1b your average Starbuck's decaf latte but it is perhaps fair
fwUF5Y comment to say that the omnipresent sugar coating will suit
&wu1Zz[qcz his fans. However, and maybe this is a reviewer thing, a bit
^\\9B-MvY of fire and even some unpredictability would have been

( welcome. Then again, the Bluesbunny was always a quadruple
