>*w(YB]/$V UJX5}36 Since their inception, High Places have created a signature
{7Ez7'SVV sound out of using bass-heavy yet crisp beats, lilting vocal
!]f:dWSLB melodies and syncopated rhythmic lines performed on folk
[aC2ktI percussion instruments, guitar duets turned into treated
!ImtnU} samples, and percussive lines created from the manipulation of
`Oi6o[a household objects. The songwriting is expansive and fluid, all
n@e|PWu the while managing to be concise. High Places gravitate toward
a67NWH the organic over the electronic, and that natural aesthetic
Xo4K!U>TzZ adds warmth and intimacy to the recordings.

^ High Places' self-titled debut was recorded by the band's Rob
Vzrp9&loY Barber and Mary Pearson in their apartment in Brooklyn's Fort
vn5]+-I Greene neighborhood. They employed a wide variety of
&_6B{Q instruments to make this album, ranging from the more
"6'# L, traditional: 12 string guitar, banjo, shakers and rattles,
U}`HN*Q.q bass, bells and Kalimba; to the inventive: plastic bags,
DOo34l6# mixing bowls, wood blocks and other common household objects.

The album has a contemplative and organic lyrical tone
;@u+b0
j emphasized by the themes of goodness manifested in nature,
8>^O]5Wo`X hardship and wonder as necessities to human existence and
I'uRXvEr7 growth. Additionally, the idea of maturation and development
DCtrTX is further accented through the recurring mention of trees and
/Big^
^u their extending, enveloping braches.
