9qhX\,	h   	\S]"nHX  Since their inception, High Places have created a signature
)}G?^rDH(  sound out of using bass-heavy yet crisp beats, lilting vocal
#lf3$Tm D  melodies and syncopated rhythmic lines performed on folk
em@bxyMm  percussion instruments, guitar duets turned into treated
YV6@SXy  samples, and percussive lines created from the manipulation of
:cvZk|b%  household objects. The songwriting is expansive and fluid, all
w6-A-M6hD   the while managing to be concise. High Places gravitate toward
+# 38   the organic over the electronic, and that natural aesthetic
%y{f]m  adds warmth and intimacy to the recordings.
 7eM:YqT/#   s y	]k  High Places' self-titled debut was recorded by the band's Rob
'R{XqHP  Barber and Mary Pearson in their apartment in Brooklyn's Fort
1feZ`P;  Greene neighborhood. They employed a wide variety of
5yh:P3 /  instruments to make this album, ranging from the more
zE~{}\J  traditional: 12 string guitar, banjo, shakers and rattles,
\BoRYb9h  bass, bells and Kalimba; to the inventive: plastic bags,
RW?F{Jy{  mixing bowls, wood blocks and other common household objects.
iq25|{1$  The album has a contemplative and organic lyrical tone
&V.\Svm8]  emphasized by the themes of goodness manifested in nature,
 |>Q]q  hardship and wonder as necessities to human existence and
,vxxp]#5  growth. Additionally, the idea of maturation and development
Xf4   is further accented through the recurring mention of trees and
 ^tw\F7  their extending, enveloping braches.
