@$L At the age of six Ayo. played the violin for a short
QVt Qx>K` time, then turned to the piano and later taught herself
~s5SZK* to play the guitar. When she was about 15, she wrote her
F+ u|HiYG first song, which was about her mother, and which helped
oJfr +3I her to cope with her traumatic childhood. Her musical
4R\ H pt taste was influenced by her father's large selection of
t ToTx
f~ vinyl albums which included Pink Floyd, Fela Kuti, Donny
f; b[w Hathaway, Jimmy Cliff and Bob Marley. When her father,
y:6; LZ9[ who worked part-time as a DJ while studying engineering
H *)NLp in Germany, discovered her singing talent he recorded a
+>PX&F first demo tape with her in a studio and allowed her to
y99mC$"Ee` drop out of school at the age of eighteen.
8w.YYo8` _]:z \TD n At twenty-one Ayo. moved to London and later lived in
7a ~X:# Paris and New York. During her time in Paris her musical
h2D >; k talent was noticed by a broader audience, and she gave
f`Fi# EKT her first solo concerts, opened 2002 for soul singers
w`5xrqt@ Omar and Cody Chesnutt, and signed a contract with
Gn&4V}F Polydor Records.
9 yfJVg &#iTQD Shortly after giving birth to her son Nile, she recorded
/gG"v5] her first album Joyful in January 2006 in the New York
->V< D ZK Sony studio. The whole disc was recorded in just five
d N$Tf days under live conditions, with a group of musicians
\P6$mh\T organized by her producer Jay Newland. The album was
hq #?kN released in June 2006 in Europe and Korea and in November
VTH>
o>g 2007 in the United States and Japan.
@/31IOIV]` gN"7be&J At the end of 2007 Ayo. started a concert tour through
jB(| ";G Germany and the United States. On her American tour she
q7E~+p(>( performed with Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds. On 10 January
j}C}:\-fY 2008 she appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman,
1 .6:# and on January 26, 2008 the Late Late Show with Craig
% oo2 /aF Ferguson, performing her song Down on My Knees. In June
S.f5v8 2008 the singer started her second tour through the

United States and Canada.
RVQh2'w )h)]SF} On 10 March 2008 Ayo. started recording on her second

2Nu- album Gravity At Last at the Compass Point Studios in
8#g1 P4 Nassau on the Island of New Providence, The Bahamas. She
c3CW Ri`LE is co-producing the album with Jay Newland. Her band
v%iflCK includes Keith Christopherson (bass), Larry Campbell
^t#&@ -'(d (guitars and other string instruments), Lucky Peterson
VF y s.= (keyboards), Sherrod Barnes (guitar/vocals) and Jermaine
~5oPpTAe Parrish (drums). The album with 13 tracks written and
sjV!5Z composed by the singer was recorded in only 5 days and
5wDg'X]>V will be released at the end of September 2008 by
&:` U&06q Universal Music France.
