6a`_i time, then turned to the piano and later taught herself
FH H2 to play the guitar. When she was about 15, she wrote her
$0iN43WSQ first song, which was about her mother, and which helped
sEfGf. her to cope with her traumatic childhood. Her musical
^_Z Qf taste was influenced by her father's large selection of
q14A 'XW vinyl albums which included Pink Floyd, Fela Kuti, Donny

Hathaway, Jimmy Cliff and Bob Marley. When her father,
**YNR:#Y who worked part-time as a DJ while studying engineering
w1A&p in Germany, discovered her singing talent he recorded a
K[ TMTn first demo tape with her in a studio and allowed her to

s?K4::@ Fv El&pu x2 At twenty-one Ayo. moved to London and later lived in
' *p-` Paris and New York. During her time in Paris her musical
$t </{]iX talent was noticed by a broader audience, and she gave
l 0b=;^6 her first solo concerts, opened 2002 for soul singers

iHA` Omar and Cody Chesnutt, and signed a contract with
{ K0T%.G Polydor Records.
&(^>}&XS.< lR^dT 4 Shortly after giving birth to her son Nile, she recorded
7#|NQ=yd her first album Joyful in January 2006 in the New York

Sony studio. The whole disc was recorded in just five
1aMBCh<}JN days under live conditions, with a group of musicians
?R{?Qv organized by her producer Jay Newland. The album was
R ;V (D3 released in June 2006 in Europe and Korea and in November
cwC, VYVl 2007 in the United States and Japan.
|]\bgh gZ!( &u At the end of 2007 Ayo. started a concert tour through
UZX)1?U Germany and the United States. On her American tour she
fAUsJ [ performed with Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds. On 10 January
qK1V!a2 2008 she appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman,
".i{WyTt and on January 26, 2008 the Late Late Show with Craig
&% r#eB?7 Ferguson, performing her song Down on My Knees. In June
o5 $K^2^g 2008 the singer started her second tour through the
*wF:Q;_<z United States and Canada.
jh0$:6 `C 2nie I*[ On 10 March 2008 Ayo. started recording on her second
pn7 :")Zx album Gravity At Last at the Compass Point Studios in
#"yf^*wX Nassau on the Island of New Providence, The Bahamas. She
X5/{Mx`8Oz is co-producing the album with Jay Newland. Her band
J+ |ohA includes Keith Christopherson (bass), Larry Campbell
qL+ y8* (guitars and other string instruments), Lucky Peterson
DVcu*UVw (keyboards), Sherrod Barnes (guitar/vocals) and Jermaine
/#se>4] Parrish (drums). The album with 13 tracks written and
d,+n,;6Cf composed by the singer was recorded in only 5 days and
:d2u? +F will be released at the end of September 2008 by
XP^ 6*}H.* Universal Music France.
