,<,:8B polished pop perfection that brings back memories of the

YVw underlying country flavour to it. Whilst once again presented
7k%T<; V as a happy little song, there is more than a touch of
LE^G&<! bitterness in his words. Funnily enough, the rather twee "The
PaB!,< A Toothbrush Song" would also make a quality country song due to
*4Fr&^M\ its dry lyrics even if a cowboy would feel the need to
+t)n;JHN accompany such emotions with bourbon rather than sparkling
r`\A
nT? mineral water.
mg:!4O$K iTo k[uJ} The pace picks up with the title track "Off the Radar" that
- <_$m6x"A truly highlights Mr Kerr's pop sensibilities and offsets his
U]~^Z R laidback vocal delivery with some spirited guitar. Loves lost
:& XH?/Wi and won (mostly lost though? and a sense of reflection on his
34|a\b} younger years seem a common theme to the songs in this album
Y(VJbm` and, indeed, regret is once more evident in "Is It Too Late to
O09ke-lC Work for NASA" even if it is disguised here with wry humour.
,1{Ep` If Bluesbunny closes his eyes, on "Mystery Star" Ally Kerr
hqSJ(gs{ seems to transform himself into Edinburgh master popsters
Bvjl-$m!v Dropkick and there are certainly worse things to be than that.
F51.N{' If Bluesbunny had to pick a favourite track, it would probably
QrG `&QN be "Amorino" evoking, as it does, the melancholic pleasures of
gIEl . heartbreak.
KLQTKMNv bF}V4"d,B3 The thing that impresses most about this album is the songs
<-Bx&Q themselves. Well crafted and melodic with sharp and observant
&fP XU*l4 lyrics, they are however presented as a whole lot fluffier
~|Y>:M+0Z than they actually are. It must be Ally Kerr's choice to do so
d 5I f"8`@ but it does seem that he is deliberately avoiding giving any
]<u
Q.~ kind of offense. Maybe he never gets angry himself - although
,.IEDF<& his words suggest otherwise -but Bluesbunny feels that he is
OK|qv [ doing his own songs a disservice here by sprinkling an inch of
" K* icing sugar on everything. It is not necessary for everything
?/* ~;fM in life to have a cherry on top for it to be appetising.
U!w1AY| n QK|n^AU/ Overall, this is a happy, upbeat album that is just a bit too
^}yg%+ polite and well mannered to try and force itself upon your
cTZ.}eLh affections. The production and arrangements are smoother than
'fwU]Hm your average Starbuck's decaf latte but it is perhaps fair
VzS&`d.h comment to say that the omnipresent sugar coating will suit
`'_m\uo his fans. However, and maybe this is a reviewer thing, a bit
~vdkFc(8B of fire and even some unpredictability would have been
W{cY6@ welcome. Then again, the Bluesbunny was always a quadruple
