E\ Glasgow's Ally Kerr does a nice line in pop songs and "Off the
6!0NFP~b Radar" provides us with the opportunity to enjoy 12 more of

?z M ,[p?u']yZz Opening the album is "Could Have Been a Contender" - all
`m1stK(PO polished pop perfection that brings back memories of the
?~.9: 93 jaunty hits of the Housemartins and their catalogue of
Bz ,D4 E$ intelligent and catchy songs. "I Think I'm Bleeding" has an
o( v` underlying country flavour to it. Whilst once again presented

X as a happy little song, there is more than a touch of
A|IPQ= bitterness in his words. Funnily enough, the rather twee "The

'n Toothbrush Song" would also make a quality country song due to
gDfM} 2]/ its dry lyrics even if a cowboy would feel the need to
0=`aXb- accompany such emotions with bourbon rather than sparkling
%E, -dw mineral water.
*sfz +8Y Q4ii25] * The pace picks up with the title track "Off the Radar" that
uTbMp~cYB truly highlights Mr Kerr's pop sensibilities and offsets his
H-5f!>) laidback vocal delivery with some spirited guitar. Loves lost
*=E4|> Ul, and won (mostly lost though? and a sense of reflection on his

PPt younger years seem a common theme to the songs in this album
d<;XQ.Wo7 and, indeed, regret is once more evident in "Is It Too Late to
VxAR,a1+n Work for NASA" even if it is disguised here with wry humour.

LyXABQ] seems to transform himself into Edinburgh master popsters

%}&9[# If Bluesbunny had to pick a favourite track, it would probably
X4*/h$48 w be "Amorino" evoking, as it does, the melancholic pleasures of

Fmx themselves. Well crafted and melodic with sharp and observant
WCWBvw4&"{ lyrics, they are however presented as a whole lot fluffier
]X _& than they actually are. It must be Ally Kerr's choice to do so
CGg6n CB but it does seem that he is deliberately avoiding giving any
Cw^)}23R kind of offense. Maybe he never gets angry himself - although
C"mb-n 7s his words suggest otherwise -but Bluesbunny feels that he is

Z doing his own songs a disservice here by sprinkling an inch of
!kK KJ~,; icing sugar on everything. It is not necessary for everything
"I i!)n, in life to have a cherry on top for it to be appetising.
yq,5M1 vR ?x/ L"h&Kp Overall, this is a happy, upbeat album that is just a bit too
%E!0,y, : polite and well mannered to try and force itself upon your
bU,& |K/ affections. The production and arrangements are smoother than
|O+binq your average Starbuck's decaf latte but it is perhaps fair
UX9o comment to say that the omnipresent sugar coating will suit
Z,&ywMm /G his fans. However, and maybe this is a reviewer thing, a bit

:o of fire and even some unpredictability would have been
\^:f4Z T welcome. Then again, the Bluesbunny was always a quadruple
