De*Z U N|< polished pop perfection that brings back memories of the
n|oAfJUk, jaunty hits of the Housemartins and their catalogue of
ToHCS/J59 intelligent and catchy songs. "I Think I'm Bleeding" has an
VIxt;yE underlying country flavour to it. Whilst once again presented
Sh_ =dzM as a happy little song, there is more than a touch of
G;%Pf9 o26 bitterness in his words. Funnily enough, the rather twee "The
6T_Mk0Sf+ Toothbrush Song" would also make a quality country song due to
i-EFq@xl its dry lyrics even if a cowboy would feel the need to
LF~=,S accompany such emotions with bourbon rather than sparkling
O/(qi8En mineral water.

\~ = e)[?{H The pace picks up with the title track "Off the Radar" that
M7(vI4V truly highlights Mr Kerr's pop sensibilities and offsets his
<k^P>Irb3t laidback vocal delivery with some spirited guitar. Loves lost
$MmCh&V and won (mostly lost though? and a sense of reflection on his
[[P UK{P0 younger years seem a common theme to the songs in this album
Eqg(U0k0 and, indeed, regret is once more evident in "Is It Too Late to
)oSUhU26} Work for NASA" even if it is disguised here with wry humour.
3 9Ql|l$ If Bluesbunny closes his eyes, on "Mystery Star" Ally Kerr
AE)<ee%\\ seems to transform himself into Edinburgh master popsters
g& *pk5V> Dropkick and there are certainly worse things to be than that.
X]Emz" If Bluesbunny had to pick a favourite track, it would probably
nJ|8#U7 be "Amorino" evoking, as it does, the melancholic pleasures of
%8T:r S heartbreak.
{da Nw>TH I,r 3.2u The thing that impresses most about this album is the songs
S4]xxc themselves. Well crafted and melodic with sharp and observant
3d.JV'C'c lyrics, they are however presented as a whole lot fluffier

aN than they actually are. It must be Ally Kerr's choice to do so
cf |<~7 but it does seem that he is deliberately avoiding giving any
PomX@N}1 kind of offense. Maybe he never gets angry himself - although
6?0 ^U 9 his words suggest otherwise -but Bluesbunny feels that he is
.Jz$)R doing his own songs a disservice here by sprinkling an inch of
"9 -duDg icing sugar on everything. It is not necessary for everything
+SmcZ^\OZ in life to have a cherry on top for it to be appetising.

KZL5>E Overall, this is a happy, upbeat album that is just a bit too
@$~ BU;kR polite and well mannered to try and force itself upon your
A`7uw|uO$ affections. The production and arrangements are smoother than

POJ your average Starbuck's decaf latte but it is perhaps fair
^ b `}g comment to say that the omnipresent sugar coating will suit
cK>5!2b his fans. However, and maybe this is a reviewer thing, a bit
NBR6$n of fire and even some unpredictability would have been
:XMw=" u= welcome. Then again, the Bluesbunny was always a quadruple
<v"C`cga espresso kind of guy.
