gH %y polished pop perfection that brings back memories of the
}N3V5cab jaunty hits of the Housemartins and their catalogue of
><;Q@u5~ intelligent and catchy songs. "I Think I'm Bleeding" has an
[oV{8 3f underlying country flavour to it. Whilst once again presented

pCNho$ as a happy little song, there is more than a touch of
#(C/Cx54 bitterness in his words. Funnily enough, the rather twee "The
;U Yc Toothbrush Song" would also make a quality country song due to
`} =yG_!A its dry lyrics even if a cowboy would feel the need to
g \Wj+el} accompany such emotions with bourbon rather than sparkling
9UwLF`XM mineral water.
8j%'9vPi <FY&h# The pace picks up with the title track "Off the Radar" that

9Q> truly highlights Mr Kerr's pop sensibilities and offsets his
!z"Nv1!~| laidback vocal delivery with some spirited guitar. Loves lost
?"6Ov ] and won (mostly lost though? and a sense of reflection on his
ueDvMP younger years seem a common theme to the songs in this album
S t@l]u9 and, indeed, regret is once more evident in "Is It Too Late to
e}A&V + Work for NASA" even if it is disguised here with wry humour.
<I; 5wv If Bluesbunny closes his eyes, on "Mystery Star" Ally Kerr
B2 c@kru seems to transform himself into Edinburgh master popsters
e,HMw D Dropkick and there are certainly worse things to be than that.
wW:7y>z) If Bluesbunny had to pick a favourite track, it would probably
+$47v$p be "Amorino" evoking, as it does, the melancholic pleasures of
{`% hgR heartbreak.
5IW8=$k~.) fXO_ g The thing that impresses most about this album is the songs
.NJ|p=fy themselves. Well crafted and melodic with sharp and observant
%}q .cV lyrics, they are however presented as a whole lot fluffier
@6 /yu>% than they actually are. It must be Ally Kerr's choice to do so
xCWz\-; but it does seem that he is deliberately avoiding giving any
%aU4,j^],o kind of offense. Maybe he never gets angry himself - although
xjo ;kx\y^ his words suggest otherwise -but Bluesbunny feels that he is
-gS"pE^1 doing his own songs a disservice here by sprinkling an inch of
Nt]qVwUm'Y icing sugar on everything. It is not necessary for everything
#;[Bl=3( in life to have a cherry on top for it to be appetising.
q-nER< G?`-]FM O Overall, this is a happy, upbeat album that is just a bit too
;+ azeW ^ polite and well mannered to try and force itself upon your
9#7J:PfZ< affections. The production and arrangements are smoother than
zB*e uHIqZ your average Starbuck's decaf latte but it is perhaps fair
W|MWXs5'1* comment to say that the omnipresent sugar coating will suit
h N his fans. However, and maybe this is a reviewer thing, a bit
B OvF)4` of fire and even some unpredictability would have been
y ,E.SB
welcome. Then again, the Bluesbunny was always a quadruple
