OI3j!L2f polished pop perfection that brings back memories of the
YkFERIa076 jaunty hits of the Housemartins and their catalogue of
!DHfw-1K intelligent and catchy songs. "I Think I'm Bleeding" has an
Uv~|Xj 4. underlying country flavour to it. Whilst once again presented
'MN CJ;A@V as a happy little song, there is more than a touch of
pRUQMPn ( bitterness in his words. Funnily enough, the rather twee "The
NJ;m&Tm,DF Toothbrush Song" would also make a quality country song due to
.RyuWh!5 its dry lyrics even if a cowboy would feel the need to
\MPbG$ ^ accompany such emotions with bourbon rather than sparkling
Vl>KeZ+ mineral water.
"5?1S-Vl 02,.UqCz The pace picks up with the title track "Off the Radar" that
u g;~dhe~ truly highlights Mr Kerr's pop sensibilities and offsets his
AS[j)x ! laidback vocal delivery with some spirited guitar. Loves lost
6Ypc]ym =J and won (mostly lost though? and a sense of reflection on his
F[W0gjUc younger years seem a common theme to the songs in this album
mgM"u94-] and, indeed, regret is once more evident in "Is It Too Late to
V'UFc>{o Work for NASA" even if it is disguised here with wry humour.
@D `j If Bluesbunny closes his eyes, on "Mystery Star" Ally Kerr
dJdOh#8+Xi seems to transform himself into Edinburgh master popsters
X\i;j!;d Dropkick and there are certainly worse things to be than that.
@ `mke4>_ If Bluesbunny had to pick a favourite track, it would probably

;18u02z^ */K]sQZa The thing that impresses most about this album is the songs
BQ70<m2D$ themselves. Well crafted and melodic with sharp and observant
cqW(9A|8 lyrics, they are however presented as a whole lot fluffier
BMV\@Sg than they actually are. It must be Ally Kerr's choice to do so
H0.A;` but it does seem that he is deliberately avoiding giving any
5r~hs6H kind of offense. Maybe he never gets angry himself - although

Rc4>, his words suggest otherwise -but Bluesbunny feels that he is
4 ?[1JN> doing his own songs a disservice here by sprinkling an inch of
BN FYUcVP icing sugar on everything. It is not necessary for everything

J8Vzf$t}; comment to say that the omnipresent sugar coating will suit
?32i1F! his fans. However, and maybe this is a reviewer thing, a bit
T7O ) of fire and even some unpredictability would have been
} j;es(~D welcome. Then again, the Bluesbunny was always a quadruple
