Z/J y'$x k VQ\1! Since their inception, High Places have created a signature
F6dP,( sound out of using bass-heavy yet crisp beats, lilting vocal
{l>hMxij melodies and syncopated rhythmic lines performed on folk
Xha..r percussion instruments, guitar duets turned into treated
!f6
(Zho samples, and percussive lines created from the manipulation of
Du){rVY^d household objects. The songwriting is expansive and fluid, all
<0?W{3NqI the while managing to be concise. High Places gravitate toward
n(]-y@X0_ the organic over the electronic, and that natural aesthetic
pD+k* adds warmth and intimacy to the recordings.

2Dngw High Places' self-titled debut was recorded by the band's Rob
~u+9J} Barber and Mary Pearson in their apartment in Brooklyn's Fort
L j$;:/G Greene neighborhood. They employed a wide variety of
FC"8#*x instruments to make this album, ranging from the more
?G&ikxl traditional: 12 string guitar, banjo, shakers and rattles,
lb1Xsgm{ bass, bells and Kalimba; to the inventive: plastic bags,
^sg,\zD 'X mixing bowls, wood blocks and other common household objects.
7"xd1l?zz The album has a contemplative and organic lyrical tone
=mmWl9'mJ emphasized by the themes of goodness manifested in nature,
>@AB<$A hardship and wonder as necessities to human existence and
7J&4akT{9 growth. Additionally, the idea of maturation and development
Zj4Uak is further accented through the recurring mention of trees and
