R`$ cJhf{{_oR Since their inception, High Places have created a signature
8XY4 sound out of using bass-heavy yet crisp beats, lilting vocal
5-C6; 7%: melodies and syncopated rhythmic lines performed on folk
Ik}*7D percussion instruments, guitar duets turned into treated

$ samples, and percussive lines created from the manipulation of
a.Mp1W household objects. The songwriting is expansive and fluid, all
h{h=',o1 the while managing to be concise. High Places gravitate toward
Ia(A&Za the organic over the electronic, and that natural aesthetic
I&cb5j]C adds warmth and intimacy to the recordings.

&oC1 High Places' self-titled debut was recorded by the band's Rob
.<j8>1 Barber and Mary Pearson in their apartment in Brooklyn's Fort
opIcSm& Greene neighborhood. They employed a wide variety of
fO:*85%}7 instruments to make this album, ranging from the more
jV7q)\uu^ traditional: 12 string guitar, banjo, shakers and rattles,
Np=*B_ @8 bass, bells and Kalimba; to the inventive: plastic bags,
Xajjzl\b mixing bowls, wood blocks and other common household objects.
OsK=% aDpj The album has a contemplative and organic lyrical tone
HSUr emphasized by the themes of goodness manifested in nature,
n@%'Nbc>b hardship and wonder as necessities to human existence and
9Qkww&VEk growth. Additionally, the idea of maturation and development
9:kb0oBa?l is further accented through the recurring mention of trees and
HQE#O4 their extending, enveloping braches.
