_HGDqjL MHxv@1)K|Y Since their inception, High Places have created a signature
I9>1WT<Yy sound out of using bass-heavy yet crisp beats, lilting vocal

melodies and syncopated rhythmic lines performed on folk
Y=}b/[s6; percussion instruments, guitar duets turned into treated

~D_S samples, and percussive lines created from the manipulation of
<7TpC@"/g household objects. The songwriting is expansive and fluid, all
pOH_ CXw the while managing to be concise. High Places gravitate toward
cp.)K!$ the organic over the electronic, and that natural aesthetic
<'GI<Hc adds warmth and intimacy to the recordings.
u:m]-' Q3oVl^q High Places' self-titled debut was recorded by the band's Rob
G e~&Ble Barber and Mary Pearson in their apartment in Brooklyn's Fort
1L &_3} Greene neighborhood. They employed a wide variety of
:1.$7Wt instruments to make this album, ranging from the more
)*s.AFu]7x traditional: 12 string guitar, banjo, shakers and rattles,
vNJ!i\bX bass, bells and Kalimba; to the inventive: plastic bags,
hsfVKlw- mixing bowls, wood blocks and other common household objects.
1RcaE!\p The album has a contemplative and organic lyrical tone
?"sk"{ emphasized by the themes of goodness manifested in nature,
CiPD+I hardship and wonder as necessities to human existence and
c>DAR growth. Additionally, the idea of maturation and development
PJ
#uYM is further accented through the recurring mention of trees and
u.!Pda their extending, enveloping braches.
