Psa8OJan U{_s1 Since their inception, High Places have created a signature
5{a(
+' sound out of using bass-heavy yet crisp beats, lilting vocal
;40m goN melodies and syncopated rhythmic lines performed on folk
TxvPfU? percussion instruments, guitar duets turned into treated
FNM"!z samples, and percussive lines created from the manipulation of
h n|E< household objects. The songwriting is expansive and fluid, all
PQ]9xzOg[ the while managing to be concise. High Places gravitate toward
`.W;ptZ6 the organic over the electronic, and that natural aesthetic
w2+]C&B* adds warmth and intimacy to the recordings.

vIr(7 fB96Q High Places' self-titled debut was recorded by the band's Rob
xUpb1R Barber and Mary Pearson in their apartment in Brooklyn's Fort
.^S78hr]n Greene neighborhood. They employed a wide variety of
CD1=2 instruments to make this album, ranging from the more
0|!<|N< traditional: 12 string guitar, banjo, shakers and rattles,
u^$Md WP bass, bells and Kalimba; to the inventive: plastic bags,
/7@2Qc2 mixing bowls, wood blocks and other common household objects.
K=?F3tX^ The album has a contemplative and organic lyrical tone
7B\(r~f`t emphasized by the themes of goodness manifested in nature,
qetP93N_* hardship and wonder as necessities to human existence and
o;>3z*9?3 growth. Additionally, the idea of maturation and development
wLN2`ucC is further accented through the recurring mention of trees and
(E}cA&{ their extending, enveloping braches.
