9k71h`5 c>D~MCNxg Since their inception, High Places have created a signature
J8S$YRZ_ sound out of using bass-heavy yet crisp beats, lilting vocal
ho{%7\ melodies and syncopated rhythmic lines performed on folk
I1>f2/$z* percussion instruments, guitar duets turned into treated
<jJ'T?,
samples, and percussive lines created from the manipulation of

i \ household objects. The songwriting is expansive and fluid, all

#J ` Yf9E0po High Places' self-titled debut was recorded by the band's Rob
m]
U Barber and Mary Pearson in their apartment in Brooklyn's Fort
rT4Q^t" Greene neighborhood. They employed a wide variety of
X8Z) W?vu instruments to make this album, ranging from the more
]'xci"qV` traditional: 12 string guitar, banjo, shakers and rattles,
el5Pe{j' bass, bells and Kalimba; to the inventive: plastic bags,
j;}-x1R mixing bowls, wood blocks and other common household objects.
J&\Q3_vro9 The album has a contemplative and organic lyrical tone
\wz^Z{U emphasized by the themes of goodness manifested in nature,
Vn5%%?]J hardship and wonder as necessities to human existence and
aB~k8]q. growth. Additionally, the idea of maturation and development
m,+PYq is further accented through the recurring mention of trees and
OAq-(_H their extending, enveloping braches.
