Ms4~P6;% o]R*6$ Since their inception, High Places have created a signature
!841/TR b sound out of using bass-heavy yet crisp beats, lilting vocal
pL [JGn melodies and syncopated rhythmic lines performed on folk
.ei5+?V<i percussion instruments, guitar duets turned into treated
-eE r|Gs) samples, and percussive lines created from the manipulation of
M6nQ17\{ household objects. The songwriting is expansive and fluid, all
Lg%3M8-W~ the while managing to be concise. High Places gravitate toward
"26=@Q^Y the organic over the electronic, and that natural aesthetic
ID_#a9N adds warmth and intimacy to the recordings.
j^1Yz}6nR V|3^H^\5P High Places' self-titled debut was recorded by the band's Rob
{D$5M/$ Barber and Mary Pearson in their apartment in Brooklyn's Fort
Ndz'^c Greene neighborhood. They employed a wide variety of
ljP<WD instruments to make this album, ranging from the more
f1$'av traditional: 12 string guitar, banjo, shakers and rattles,
_
?o>i/ bass, bells and Kalimba; to the inventive: plastic bags,
cjp~I/U mixing bowls, wood blocks and other common household objects.
BjyV&1tRV! The album has a contemplative and organic lyrical tone
,,c+R?D emphasized by the themes of goodness manifested in nature,
jO0"`|(]s hardship and wonder as necessities to human existence and

d`mp[ growth. Additionally, the idea of maturation and development
yz<$?G
blz is further accented through the recurring mention of trees and
(O$il their extending, enveloping braches.
