{[W(a<%bXm Skxd<gv Since their inception, High Places have created a signature
t,HFz6 sound out of using bass-heavy yet crisp beats, lilting vocal
S-c ^eLzQ melodies and syncopated rhythmic lines performed on folk
IZrk1fh percussion instruments, guitar duets turned into treated
Y3rt5\! samples, and percussive lines created from the manipulation of
WU)Ss`s \ household objects. The songwriting is expansive and fluid, all
r4Q|5kT*i the while managing to be concise. High Places gravitate toward
_A'{la~k the organic over the electronic, and that natural aesthetic
*y]+dK&- adds warmth and intimacy to the recordings.
Ed-M7#wY >*1}1~uU`' High Places' self-titled debut was recorded by the band's Rob
6QZp@ Barber and Mary Pearson in their apartment in Brooklyn's Fort
T@YGB]*Y Greene neighborhood. They employed a wide variety of
ELD!{bMT instruments to make this album, ranging from the more
zT9JBMNE: traditional: 12 string guitar, banjo, shakers and rattles,
{
eT.SO bass, bells and Kalimba; to the inventive: plastic bags,
(6gK4__}] mixing bowls, wood blocks and other common household objects.
}

W^4F The album has a contemplative and organic lyrical tone
l*=aMjd? emphasized by the themes of goodness manifested in nature,
zGlZ!t: hardship and wonder as necessities to human existence and
~mp0B9L% growth. Additionally, the idea of maturation and development
>Aq:K^D/3F is further accented through the recurring mention of trees and
pPro }@@ their extending, enveloping braches.
