:bKT#\ Since their inception, High Places have created a signature
c&++[ sound out of using bass-heavy yet crisp beats, lilting vocal
(yP55PC
O$ melodies and syncopated rhythmic lines performed on folk
3\{Sf /# percussion instruments, guitar duets turned into treated
x3Ud0[( samples, and percussive lines created from the manipulation of
zgqw*)C~ household objects. The songwriting is expansive and fluid, all
;i9CQ0e? the while managing to be concise. High Places gravitate toward
a3;.{6el)H the organic over the electronic, and that natural aesthetic
V|AE~R^ adds warmth and intimacy to the recordings.
}$-VI\96 MjpJAV/84 High Places' self-titled debut was recorded by the band's Rob
&f*d FUM]I Barber and Mary Pearson in their apartment in Brooklyn's Fort
0REWbcxd" Greene neighborhood. They employed a wide variety of
R%%`wm
G)" instruments to make this album, ranging from the more
h uJqqC traditional: 12 string guitar, banjo, shakers and rattles,
CC\z_C*P-p bass, bells and Kalimba; to the inventive: plastic bags,
R*X2Z
{n mixing bowls, wood blocks and other common household objects.
mw[4<vfB0a The album has a contemplative and organic lyrical tone
+]-KzDsr"V emphasized by the themes of goodness manifested in nature,
lIz_0rE hardship and wonder as necessities to human existence and
))`Zv=y" growth. Additionally, the idea of maturation and development

is further accented through the recurring mention of trees and
qN@a<row&~ their extending, enveloping braches.
