:s5g6TR o6r4tpiR5 Since their inception, High Places have created a signature
p#kC#{<nE sound out of using bass-heavy yet crisp beats, lilting vocal
RD4)NN6y5} melodies and syncopated rhythmic lines performed on folk
xv:?n^yt.[ percussion instruments, guitar duets turned into treated
t'J
fiG M samples, and percussive lines created from the manipulation of
g U?) household objects. The songwriting is expansive and fluid, all
,uv$oP- the while managing to be concise. High Places gravitate toward
~g{,W the organic over the electronic, and that natural aesthetic
T)u w2 adds warmth and intimacy to the recordings.
8syo_sC | ff#-USK^R High Places' self-titled debut was recorded by the band's Rob
cGp^;> ]M Barber and Mary Pearson in their apartment in Brooklyn's Fort
&Yg/08* Greene neighborhood. They employed a wide variety of
-)oBh instruments to make this album, ranging from the more
"" U_|JH- traditional: 12 string guitar, banjo, shakers and rattles,
Xo`1#6xsE bass, bells and Kalimba; to the inventive: plastic bags,
:~(im_r mixing bowls, wood blocks and other common household objects.
Iqsk\2W]a3 The album has a contemplative and organic lyrical tone
K\b O[J emphasized by the themes of goodness manifested in nature,
HhvG#Sam! hardship and wonder as necessities to human existence and
@m V C growth. Additionally, the idea of maturation and development
D@^ZpN8r is further accented through the recurring mention of trees and
A-5+# their extending, enveloping braches.
