r'~^BLT`# Kt\#|-{CH- Since their inception, High Places have created a signature
T~JE.Y3B3 sound out of using bass-heavy yet crisp beats, lilting vocal
1@vlbgLr@ melodies and syncopated rhythmic lines performed on folk
/`vn/X^?^ percussion instruments, guitar duets turned into treated
F3pBk)>a\ samples, and percussive lines created from the manipulation of
L-QzC<[F/ household objects. The songwriting is expansive and fluid, all
;!H|0sv the while managing to be concise. High Places gravitate toward

~`wGM Kb5 Y A High Places' self-titled debut was recorded by the band's Rob
M^3pJ=;5 Barber and Mary Pearson in their apartment in Brooklyn's Fort
qt{
{q Greene neighborhood. They employed a wide variety of
RJO40&Z<Z instruments to make this album, ranging from the more
v cZg3:j traditional: 12 string guitar, banjo, shakers and rattles,
:UDT!
5FNO bass, bells and Kalimba; to the inventive: plastic bags,
B`i5lD mixing bowls, wood blocks and other common household objects.
csNB
\ The album has a contemplative and organic lyrical tone
afNqK~ emphasized by the themes of goodness manifested in nature,
w\QMA3 hardship and wonder as necessities to human existence and
r[Zg$CW growth. Additionally, the idea of maturation and development
oGXndfd" is further accented through the recurring mention of trees and
oP 4z> their extending, enveloping braches.
