B].V|8h 6;s.%W Since their inception, High Places have created a signature
PyQt8Qlz sound out of using bass-heavy yet crisp beats, lilting vocal
U
hKC:<% melodies and syncopated rhythmic lines performed on folk
kI7c22OJ percussion instruments, guitar duets turned into treated
kT6h}d^/^ samples, and percussive lines created from the manipulation of
jb;!"HC household objects. The songwriting is expansive and fluid, all
]@E_Hx{S the while managing to be concise. High Places gravitate toward
mQEE?/xX; the organic over the electronic, and that natural aesthetic

v2=Iqo }j<:hDQP High Places' self-titled debut was recorded by the band's Rob
y4sKe:@2 Barber and Mary Pearson in their apartment in Brooklyn's Fort
}-YM>q Greene neighborhood. They employed a wide variety of
JSz;>
instruments to make this album, ranging from the more
*IBT!@*Q& traditional: 12 string guitar, banjo, shakers and rattles,
SSG57N-T bass, bells and Kalimba; to the inventive: plastic bags,
fz/Ee1T\ mixing bowls, wood blocks and other common household objects.
Y%<y`]I The album has a contemplative and organic lyrical tone
eS(hLXE!7 emphasized by the themes of goodness manifested in nature,
`pr$l hardship and wonder as necessities to human existence and
7#/->Y growth. Additionally, the idea of maturation and development
a#3+PB# is further accented through the recurring mention of trees and
